Modern Domino: iOS 7

iOS 7 is the first major overall of Apple’s mobile UI since the release of the iPhone in 2007. In the first five days it is estimated 200 million devices upgraded to iOS 7.So the goal posts for providing a modern UI to our users has changed yet again. We already have hundreds of millions of users getting used to the latest UI offering from Apple and they are going to be looking for the same features from their other applications. The following is a summary of some of the key design changes that we as Notes/Domino developers should be aware of when delivering content to mobile devices.

  1. Does this mean that the ext lib e.g. upgrade pack should get an update in order to show Domino apps using the mobile controls in this new shiny UI?

    Yep, just tested it.

Any ideas IBM is going to deliver an update quickly?

  2. Peter Presnell says:

It is not clear that IBM are likely to deliver an iOS 7 specific version of the existing “iPhone” theme any time soon. The existing theme was developed as part of dojo. I would expect we would need to wait for a new version of dojo and then a later release of Domino to become available. Look more for the Notes community via OpenNTF to fill the void. Red Pill will certainly contribute its solution when it is ready.

  3. Thanks Peter, useful summary
